I adore all things crochet. even though today crafting has become cooler, the art of crochet is still seen as old fashioned by many people. I like to see crochet works in the modern art exhibitions, as “yarn bombing” on the streets and in everyday design objects or fashion collections. I prefer brazilian artist ernesto neto huge crochet net installations that can be walked upon, marcel wanders crochet furniture for mooi, patricia urquiola rugs, crochet sculpture work of portuguese artist joana vasconcelos (venice biennale) and socially conscious craft endeavours, like moonbasket from cape town, which sustain the ladies’ livelihood, encourage skill development and carve a place for a valuable, age-old craft within a contemporary context.
